Well I’m still at the point of saying that the Beta is nearly there. Sometimes it feels like a mirage that remains constatly out of reach (or is that rainbows?). That said I still firmly believe that we are almost at Beta stage, and that the Beta will be something worth seeing.

The good news is that the Rapidsite family has grown. The team has expanded to include a new chap called Alex, who is incredibly strong in design and CSS, and is bringing his skills in other areas such as javascript, XSL and PHP up to speed at a pace that has to impress.

As a developer I tend to think in terms of usability and technicality, so to have a voice on the team who will push the design point is great. That said Alex is one of those really annoying people who appear to be able to pick up new skills at a frightening pace, which is allowing him to make some constructive and creative input into the development process already. Alex has worked for Ufindus for a while and you can find some of his work on many of Ufindus’ portal sites, and his musings on the Customer Street development blog.

Another talented individual that we are trying to steal for Rapidsite is Matt. He’s still trying to finish off some of his existing commitments, but we’re determined to nab him. Mat is an incredibly talented designer and his CSS skills are second to none. He has also worked for Ufindus for a while (see what a talented bunch we have here?), where he converts the Photoshop page designs of the Design team (don’t get me started on how sickeningly talented they are), into semantic, standards compliant XHTML and CSS. Mats Customer Street CSS blog is well worth a look if you like CSS (who doesn’t), as he really knows his stuff.

One other change to the project is that Rapidsite is no more. It is now known as the Customer Street Site Builder (snappy?). This will of course mean huge changes with the rapidsite application, possibly resulting in enormous delays to the project time scale. Yes I’m afraid we have to change the background colour from blue… to green!
So with all this new, keen and burgeoning talent and a new name and colour scheme, we should reach Beta in no time, honest.
